About

Hi. my name is Sean Charles and I have been hacking boxes since I was eleven years old, courtesy of my school, which at the time I believe was only one of two in the whole of Plymouth to have a computer! (A 280Z from Research Machines)

In the thirty-three years since then I have risen to great levels of mediocrity whilst continuing to think of myself as ‘no-good’ as a hacker despite everybody else telling me the opposite but the the real fact is, and we know who we are, I am just a learning junkie and nowhere else in my opinion can you shoot up forever and still not know it all than in the I.T. arena and programming languages, libraries and all that jazz in particular.

Virtual smack takes up no space and causes no known damage to the nose except when the missus whacks it with a rolling pin because you still haven’t tiled the kitchen because you got engrossed with some meaningless article on continuation passing mechanisms in Lego and had to have a go…

Sure, I can program in over thirty languages, design electronic circuits, program PIC chips and anything else with a CPU, build whole systems from disparate boxes and hold a black-belt 7th dan in glue-jitsu (nowadays they call it SOA but that is all bollocks anyway, everything is bollocks but that is another story) and generally save lots of people lots of money with my extensive knowledge of open source solutions but I still think I suck at it all when I look around and see the real movers and shakers releasing new languages, solutions and products and in all my years I have never publicly released anything!

‘Nuff Said.

I have *nearly* completed my first iPhone application though which will no doubt fail as well because I care too much about quality and will therefore never finish it because like all my other things it will never be good enough. Sometimes I think Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance ruined my life.

I know very little of any value except this :-

  1. Nobody knows it all.
  2. Those that do are liars, cheats, mis-guided or all of those.
  3. What goes around comes around.
  4. Cheese toasties rock.

Take it easy.
